A date with the city: Plague events in Prešporka

The beginning: 5. 9. 2026 | 18:00 h

The place: at the Plague Column

Address: Fish Square, Bratislava

Organizer: Bratislava Cultural and Information Center

Plague. A word that for centuries has frightened people more than wars. A few days were enough and life in the city came to a standstill. The city gates were closed, the streets emptied, the bells announced more victims and the desperate inhabitants begged for rescue.
We invite you to a tour during which we will return to the times of the most devastating epidemics that struck Prešporok. We will learn how the city tried to fight the invisible enemy, what measures the city council took, where the lazarets were established, how they functioned and where the plague cemeteries were located, and what the plague columns, chapels, and statues of saints reveal.
The history of plague epidemics is a story of courage, faith, hope and human helplessness. A story that remains written on the streets of Bratislava to this day. Discover it with us.
