Freedom Day at Devín Castle

The beginning: 16. 11. 2025 | 10:00 h

The place: Devin Castle

Address: Muranska 10, Bratislava

Organizer: Bratislava City Museum

Devín Castle is a place that is inextricably linked to the events of the Gentle Revolution. Here, in the winter of 1989, symbolic gatherings and peaceful demonstrations took place, which were among the final moments of the fall of the communist regime.

On the occasion of the anniversary of the Gentle Revolution, MMB is offering a reduced admission fee of €1, which will make the entire area accessible.

We definitely recommend not missing the exhibition "Attention, Border! Devín in the Iron Curtain 1948 - 1989", which is specially supplemented for this occasion with an exceptional artifact from the time of the Devín demonstrations.

In cooperation with the Institute of National Memory, we are also offering three free guided tours (10:00, 13:00 and 15:00), which will start at the Gate of Freedom monument at the confluence of the Danube and Morava rivers and end directly at Devín Castle.

The tours will be led by Peter Mikle, director of the Archives of the National Archives of the Slovak Republic, who will explain the period of the Iron Curtain, when the area around Devín was among the most guarded places in the country.

The number of places is limited, therefore advance registration is required at the links:
