In the 17th century, Bratislava was part of the western part of the Hungarian Kingdom, not subject to Ottoman power. Despite the fact that more famous military-historical events took place in other areas of Central Europe, our territory was not actually bypassed by military operations.

On Saturday, October 3, 2026, the historical festival Battle of Bratislava will take place for the tenth time in Bratislava's Janka Kráľa Park. This event is a historical and cultural festival with international participation of performers, the main part of the program of which is the reconstruction of the real military siege of the city of Bratislava/Prešporok from the 17th century - an event that significantly influenced the development of events in the region.

As part of the event, we will reconstruct a total of three military clashes or sieges that actually took place between 1619 and 1621 before the contemporary Prešpork. There will also be a large march of historical armies through the streets of the city center, which will attract the interest of hundreds of domestic and foreign visitors to the pedestrian zone.

Throughout the day, visitors will have the opportunity to take a look at a historic military camp, taste period cuisine, or listen to a lecture on the history of Bratislava that goes beyond the conflict itself. The area in the Janko Kráľ Park will be filled with hundreds of members of historical societies from all over Europe, who will enthusiastically present authentic period costumes, tents, equipment, clothing, and weapons.

For the more daring, there will be a unique opportunity to try out period cold weapons and even learn how to use them properly. The youngest visitors can try their skills with soft weapons in the children's arena.

This year, the festival will be associated with two authors of historical literature. During the event, the book launch of Mohác 1526 by author R. Mocpajchel will take place, and shortly afterwards we will start a discussion with writer J. Červenák, accompanied by a book signing.

The event will be completed with live period music, a varied menu of refreshments and beer specials, which together will contribute to the unique atmosphere of this exceptional event.

The project is intended for all age groups, from young children to seniors, both domestic and foreign visitors to the city. The event is freely accessible to the public.

The organizers of the Battle of Bratislava event are two renowned historical fencing groups: Banderium and Manu Forti, who organize this event out of pure passion for history.

For two decades, members of both groups have been translating their rich international experience into unique performances across Europe and beyond, proving that dedication and enthusiasm can create extraordinary experiences for the entire community. Together, they strive to ensure that every visitor becomes part of a historical event and leaves with not only an experience, but also an awareness of the importance of understanding and learning from our history.

Free admission.
