Despite the pandemic that paralyzed Slovakia last year, more than twenty domestic films have made it to Slovak cinemas. If you decide to visit the Lumière Cinema from November 29 to December 5, you will receive a package of excellent Slovak feature and documentary films, and there will also be an animated section. The Slovak Film Week is brought to you by the Slovak Film Institute in cooperation with the Bratislava Cultural and Information Centre.
Among the films screened will be last year's hits such as Charlatan Agnieszka Holland and Pig Marianna Čengel Solčanská and Rudolf Biermann, documentary On the network Vít Klusák and Barbora Chalupová, but also the award-winning Servants Ivan Ostrochovský or documents Paradise on earth Jara Vojtek and Somersault is king Pavla Barabáš or a short animated film Sh_t Happens, which was presented at the prestigious Sundance Festival last year. Not only for those who like to delve into the depths of films, four panels are intended on the topic of feature, documentary and animated films and on Slovak film science in the past year. The question of how the pandemic shook Slovak audiovisual will be answered by guests from the ranks of producers, distributors, cinemas and representatives of the Audiovisual Fund in a discussion on audiovisual creation and distribution during the pandemic. There will also be a seminar Literature and Film, dedicated to Petr Pišťanek, which will include the premiere of DVDs with films based on the works of this exceptional author of the 90s.
Last year, the cult film directed by Štefan Semjan from 1994 had its renewed premiere. On the beautiful blue Danube about three bohemian friends whose excitement from adventures on the edge of the law leads them to steal an Andy Warhol painting. At a special screening of the currently filmed A film about a film The long-awaited DVD of this film will be released with the participation of Juraj Johanides, one of the film's representatives.
Something for the kids
Children will also have their own fun. For the youngest viewers, the Slovak Film Week will premiere a feature-length animated film Mice belong in heaven (2021), a playful and at the same time educational Film Cabinet for Children is also prepared. An exhibition dedicated to the first Slovak feature film Janosik (1921) by Jaroslav Siakeľ will commemorate this year's centenary of Slovak cinematography. Viewers will also be able to participate in a viewer poll for the best film of 2020.
