Bratislava Calvary and its story

The Bratislava Calvary is one of the oldest in Slovakia and one of the first in Hungary! It is located on a hill between Hlboka and Pražská Streets, and on May 27, 2024, 330 years have passed since its foundation stone was laid (in 1694). The original Stations of the Cross from the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries were purposefully destroyed in the 1950s, with the most devastated being during the construction of Pražská Street, when the Calvary Hill was also dredged. Only the torso survived until the 21st century, but thanks to the initiative and hard work of the Bratislava Calvary Civic Association, this pilgrimage site is currently being successfully restored. Ludwig Bagin talked about the story of the Bratislava Calvary with an excellent guide to Bratislava Pavol Šimov.
