About space

The cultural scene is located right in the historic Janko Kráľ's garden, one of the oldest public parks in Central Europe. It is a popular place for relaxation, greenery, culture and community meetings. 

It was created on the site of a former amphitheater and its central element is a monumental metal object from the performance. Summer Shakespeare Festival – OthelloThe author of the work, which today forms the visual dominant of the scene, is the artist Paul Andrasko. 

Near the scene is located Ferdinand's Bistro, Aupark shopping center, as well as SNP Skatepark a SNP Bridge, which complete the broader urban context of the space and provide visitors with comfort and easy accessibility. 

Janko Kráľ's orchard It thus combines nature, history, and city life with cultural events, which come to life in the summer thanks to this scene. 

History of the place

Janko Kráľ's orchard was created in the years 1774 – 1776 as the first public park in Central EuropeIt acquired its present form in 1839 and is still characterized by vast natural areas complemented by small architecture and rare trees. The planting of exotic trees was probably the work of a Bratislava doctor and botanist Dr. Stefan Lumnitzer. 

The park is characterized by semicircular resting places with the zodiac and a unique garden gazebo, which originally served as the tower of a Franciscan church. At its heart stands a statue Janka Kráľa – the poet after whom the park is named and who became its symbol. 

Today, the park primarily has a cultural and social function. It serves as a place of relaxation, meetings and exercise for all generations - an oasis of peace in the city center that preserves its historical character.

• Exotic tree species also grow in the park, such as ginkgo biloba, orange maclura whether Chinese redwood
• The rarest trees include maple-leaved plane trees – majestic trees older than 200 years, whose trunks reach a circumference of up to 600 centimeters
