About space

The floor where it was once located Arthur Fleischmann Museum, today it serves as more intimate cultural and community eventsThe Bratislava Cultural and Information Centre (BKIS) organizes its own programs here, providing space for independent cultural actors through the system BKIS Support Programme and also offers it as a commercial rental.
During the Bratislava Summer of Culture, the courtyard comes alive as Green White - an urban relaxation zone with seating, greenery, and space for informal meetings, cultural or community activities, as well as the popular city chess.  
The basement spaces are currently unused due to their technical condition, their reconstruction and renewal is currently in the planning process. 

History of the place

The house at Biela 6 is a significant example of bourgeois architecture in the historic center of Bratislava. Its core dates back to the 14th century and bears both Gothic and Renaissance elements. 

Originally the ground floor building was in 16th and 17th centuries rebuilt – created south wing towards Franciscan Square a Renaissance arcade oriented towards Michalska Street. In the courtyard, they have been preserved to this day arcades from around 1560 and in the interior barrel vaults with lunettes. 

V 18th century belonged to the house to the Windisch familyIt was here that he lived and was probably born. Karl Gottlieb von Windisch (1725 – 1793) – businessman, writer, journalist and newspaper editor-in-chief Pressburger Zeitung, which also had their editorial office in the house. Windisch was a friend of the inventor Wolfgang Kempelen and the author of the book Letters about Mr. Kempelen's chess machine. 

Po 19th century The house gradually lost its original character, but research in the years 1975 a 1980 - 1985 revealed its extraordinary monumental value. 
In the years 2002 - 2023 resided here Arthur Fleischmann MuseumAfter its closure due to technical obsolescence and rationalization of expenses of the Bratislava City Museum, the building was entrusted to BKIS for new cultural use. 

Interesting facts

• in the courtyard there is sandstone fountain from the 18th century, depicting a putto on the back of a fish or a tossing dolphin, coming from another townhouse, it was placed at Biela 6 in 1999
• connects with the fountain The legend of the "fish boy" from Petržalka, whose legend supposedly inspired the creation of this work of art
• facade decorates Renaissance mural from the second half 16th century, discovered in 1975 – a find that classified the house as a monument of primary importance
