Celebration of the 35th anniversary of the Gentle Revolution

Gentle promenade 2024
The gentle revolution brought fragile values into our lives – the ability to live freely, to create, to speak, to work. We did not gain them easily, which is why it is natural for us to commemorate the anniversary of the most important holiday of the modern era of our history.
The Bratislava Cultural and Information Center has prepared a commemorative program for November 17th at the Gentle Revolution Square and also a website Gentle promenade, which was a walk through events commemorating the 35th anniversary of the Gentle Revolution.

Several generations of artists have already been born into "freedom". Students of the Academy of Fine Arts are among them. They no longer have to defend their work or worldview and it is a natural part of their being. However, with the anniversary of the Gentle Revolution, they want to hold up a mirror to democracy. They feel the need to reflect on whether their freedom is still truly freedom. BKIS, in cooperation with the Academy of Fine Arts and selected authors, has created a joint initiative "Advertisement for Democracy". It shows the relevance of the topics of November 17, 1989, because freedom is key.
"We still believe in the power of art and its power to speak to people, so we want to bring messages to the streets from different generations of artists who are a voice for democracy." (Initiators – Adam Balogh, Samuel Gregor-Dzurek and curator Jana Babušiaková.)
