A date with the city: Milan Rastislav Štefánik on his studies in Bratislava

He studied here from 1890 to 93 and was an average to above-average student, receiving a scholarship of 5 gulden in the second year and 8 gulden in the third year. His former teacher Ferdinand Hirschmann recalled that he also liked mathematics and geography. In addition to his studies, he also devoted himself to his lifelong hobby in Bratislava – astronomy and allegedly built his first telescope here. He left Bratislava for Sopron due to his brother Pavol's poor grades. Štefánik's Bratislava studies are still commemorated by the memorial building of prominent students of the lyceum, which was unveiled on the building in 1932.
