Chamber concerts at the House of Music: Convergences / Zagar – Beethoven – Hummel

The Convergence chamber concert series at the House of Music will bring music by composers associated with Bratislava from September to December.

The first of four concerts will take place on Monday, September 7th at 7:00 p.m. It will feature piano trios. Ludwig van Beethoven and his friend Johann Nepomuk Hummel. Beethoven gave a concert in Bratislava in 1796 and maintained contacts with several members of the Hungarian nobility; the admired piano virtuoso Hummel kept returning to the city even at the peak of his career. The concert will open with the Clarinet Trio from 1993 by the Bratislava native, current Slovak composer Peter Zagar.

The compositions will be performed by renowned Slovak artists Ronald Šebesta (clarinet), Daniel Rumler (violin), Jozef Lupták (cello) and Nora Skuta (piano).

Ronald Sebesta (clarinet) is one of the leading Slovak clarinetists. He worked as the first clarinetist of the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra and Cappella Istropolitana and was a member of several contemporary music ensembles, as well as ensembles focused on historically informed interpretation. He worked as a teacher at the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in Bratislava, and currently teaches at the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica. In 2025, he recorded the album Clarinet on the Road with compositions from romanticism to the present day.

Daniel Rumler (violin) studied at the Conservatory in Pardubice, the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and the Hochschule Luzern – Musik, and completed his doctoral studies at the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica. He has worked in several renowned Swiss orchestras and was a member of the first violin group of the Slovak Philharmonic from 2018 to 2023. He is dedicated to historically informed interpretation and has performed at several major European festivals. Since 2021, he has been teaching violin at the Conservatory in Bratislava and is also engaged in composition and arranging.

Jozef Lupták (cello) is the founder and artistic director of the Konvergencie festival and is one of the prominent figures in Slovak musical life. As a soloist and chamber player, he performs at home and abroad and has collaborated with many prominent artists, ensembles and conductors. He also teaches at the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica and the Conservatory in Bratislava. He is the recipient of several awards and the author or performer of numerous recordings ranging from classical music to crossover and original projects.

Nora Skuta (piano) is a sought-after performer of classical and contemporary music who has performed at many important domestic and international festivals. Chamber music is an important part of her artistic profile. She has collaborated with important figures, composers, performers, conductors of the classical music scene and music of the 20th century. Since 2009 she has been working in the Österreichisches Ensemble für Neue Musik in Salzburg. Her award-winning solo album John Cage – Sonatas and Interludes for Prepared Piano was included in the publication 1001 Classical CDs You Must Hear Before You Die.

During the next evenings of the cycle (October 12, November 9 and December 7, 2026) will also feature music by Béla Bartók, Ernő Dohnányi, Antonín Dvořák, Robert Schumann and Slovak composers Ľudovít Rajter, Vladimír Godár, Marián Varga and Marek Brezovský.
