A Date with the City: The Road to Freedom

A date with the city for families with children: The road to freedom

Once upon a time, there was a country where people couldn't say what they thought out loud. They couldn't paint pictures and write books as they wanted. Some books were even banned, and if people read them, they risked severe punishment. They couldn't meet with anyone they wanted and could only travel where they were allowed. This is not a country from a sad fairy tale, this is Slovakia during the communist regime. Despite this, many didn't give up and worked secretly or publicly so that we could live in freedom one day. Come and walk with us to the places where free Slovakia was born and take part in interactive tasks! You will learn why people went on trips to the mountains with backpacks full of books, that secret agents are not only in movies, and that even a simple lit candle can cause a revolution. And we will take a close look at that "gentle" revolution.

The outing is intended for families with children aged 5 to 12. Children can look forward to, for example, deciphering a secret message, demonstrating samizdat, dressing up as a secret agent, making banners, or blowing out candles.

Accompanied by: Margita Petríková

Deadline: November 19, 2023

The walking route is barrier-free.
