Helena Navratilova

Lecturer, Hall of Fame 2010

The Bratislava native studied electrical technology at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Slovak Technical University (today the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics of the Slovak University of Technology). In 1964, she completed the Guide Course at the MDKO (the predecessor of the BKIS course), making her currently the oldest active local history guide in Bratislava.

During her rich career, she has accompanied several important personalities around Bratislava, such as the first lady of the Czech Republic (Dagmar Havlová) and Hungary (Zsuzsanna Göntérová) or Rear Admiral Grigori Nikitič Cholosťakov, commander of the Danube River Flotilla, which participated in the liberation of Bratislava in April 1945. However, she does not focus only on our city, but has also carried out more than 270 historical and educational tours within Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Austria and Hungary.

She is a co-author of the publication Bratislava – Guide (1992).

For more than 50 years (since 1966!) she has been working as a lecturer, and for some time also as a methodologist for the Tourist Guide course. She currently lectures on the Danube, music, theater, museums, and galleries.
