Let's remember: Anniversary of the establishment of the Slovak State

The first commemorative event within the Contexts cycle in 2025 was anniversary of the establishment of the Slovak state (March 14, 1939). Today, this date is a reminder for us, a day when we reflect on what lost freedom and undermined values ​​can cause.

BKIS invited an artist and an educator to collaborate on the event Jan Šicka, who artistically processed the topic through animation. The animation took the form of a mosaic of numbers that symbolize specific people and their fates associated with the deportation of Slovaks.

Each mosaic was made of small details, where each element had its own meaning, together they created an important image and message. The installation was on SNP Square on March 14, 2025 until 22:00 PM.

The event was created in collaboration with Post Bellum SK / Stories of the 20th Century. The art installation was realized thanks to partners Bratislava Tourist Board and financial support from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Slovak Republic.
