Bratislava Cultural Summer (BKL) is an essential part of summer in the capital. The largest and oldest city festival has been bringing culture to the streets, squares, parks and unconventional spaces of Bratislava since 1976. From June to the end of August, it enlivens the historic center and city districts and offers the opportunity to experience and discover the city from new perspectives.
This multi-genre festival annually brings events for all ages - concerts, theater and film performances, exhibitions, workshops, discussions, and a program for families with children. The Bratislava Cultural Summer thus creates a space for meetings, cultural experiences, and a pleasant time spent in the city for three months.
Popular regular formats include Sunday lunch at Janko Kráľ's garden for the little ones, Evenings on the walls, movie nights at the Michurin Amphitheater or Finale at the fountain on Freedom Square, which attracts thousands of visitors every year. There is also a program in Klariska Concert Hall composed mostly of projects supported under BKIS Support Programme, program in House of Music and White 6 – intended primarily for the younger generation. BKL also includes established projects such as the Summer Shakespeare Festival, Homage to Freedom, and the International Festival of Slovak Historical Organs.
BKL also includes Bratislava Summer University for Seniors – a popular educational and cultural project that BKIS is preparing in cooperation with the capital for older active Bratislava residents.
