A date with the city: On the border of the Old and New Towns
22. 10. 2022, Saturday, 14:00 PM
with guide Andrea Turanska
The geographical location of Bratislava shows that its expansion is mainly towards the East. Bratislava New Town is the first part of the city in this direction, stretching along the foothills of the Little Carpathians. There are no city palaces in it, but it is not at all poor in beautiful architecture. The industrial revolution and the increase in the population of Bratislava left their mark on its development. New Town is associated with names such as Ignác Feigler, Fridrich Weinwurm, and Dušan Jurkovič.
We also have no shortage of current famous architectural figures. The authors of Tržnica, or the buildings of the now demolished Istropolis, belong to the top of socialist realism. Residential colonies, functionalist houses, the first concrete housing estates and their works of art intertwined with the history of past centuries... All of this will be our goal during Saturday's tour of the border part of Nové Mesto. We will go from the horse railway building, through the Trnavské and Račianske mýto, around Filiálka back to Istropolis.
We are looking forward to you!
The walk is PARTIALLY BARRIER-FREE, however, there will be stairs on the route that participants in wheelchairs will have to navigate more difficultly.
