A date with the city: Zuckermandel – a contrast of history and a modern city

We cordially invite you to a thematic walk with a guide around Bratislava from the series:
A date with the city for people with mobility disabilities - Zuckermandel - a contrast of history and the modern city.
Excellent lady guide Andrea Turanska tells you the story of Zuckermand, which was created
in the 16th century as an independent settlement. When the settlement gained market rights at the beginning of the 18th century, it meant a great boom for it - an influx of wealthy residents, new houses and streets. However, after the great boom came a great decline, in the middle of the 19th century. However, the worst blow was not until the 1970s. Today, all that remains of this historical part is a torso, but all the more magical.
Here we will meet the legendary Messerschmidt and his grimacing heads, the story of our Jewish community will draw us into the 18th century and the Second World War, the fates of the houses under the castle will bring us closer to the period of post-war development in Bratislava... It will be a very varied story.
Date: October 8, 2023, Sunday, at 14:00 p.m. (duration up to 1,5 hours)
Route description: The advantage of Zuckermand is that by moving along one street we can show and tell the story of the entire area. We will move from the tunnel towards Vydrica, that is, down the hill. The sidewalks are not wide enough everywhere, but this location is quiet and thanks to this we can also move along the road. It is largely a newly built neighborhood, the sidewalks and the pier at Skalný nose are adapted for people with disabilities.
The event is realized with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic.
