The only preserved gateway from the original city fortification. It was constructed at the end of the 14th century. It takes its name from the church of St. Michael, which stood in the nearby suburb. It was renovated to its present form in 1753 - 1758, when the statue of St. Michael the Archangel was placed on top of the 51 m high tower. The gateway was closed by a falling metal portcullis and wooden doors. The upper cross-beam remains preserved to this day.
Today the tower is home to the Museum of Weapons and City Fortifications, which is one of the expositions of Bratislava City Museum.
