The Slovak National Museum is one of the youngest national museums in Europe. The collection documents the development of nature and society in Slovakia, the culture and life of Slovaks at both home and abroad, and changes in the life of the country and its inhabitants. Bratislava City Museum (former Pressburg), founded in 1868, documents the town’s history since early times with collections of extraordinary artistic and historic value. The collections contain archaeological finds, objects related to crafts and industry, viticulture, pharmacy, cultural and social life, as well as numismatics and ethnography. The museums are located in valuable historic buildings protected as architectural monuments.
