Mirbach Palace is one of the true jewels of Rococo architecture in Bratislava. It was built between 1768 – 1770 by the Bratislava brewer Michal Spech, with subsequent owners being Count Imrich Csáky, Karol Nyáry and eventually Emil Mirbach. From the original building two small rooms on the first floor have been preserved, with wooden wainscoting walls decorated with rare period coloured engravings. A permanent exposition of Central European baroque painting and sculpting is housed on the first floor.

Until the mid-19th century the site of today’s palace was the seat of the local lords, being owned from 1715 by the hereditary lords of Bratislava county – the Pálffy family. Up to the middle of the 19th century Count Ján Pálffy had it converted to a late classicist style palace. Reconstruction work revealed important archaeological findings, the foundations of a Roman brick house from the beginning of the 13th century and a unique gothic palace from the period around the middle of the 14th century.
