Živena, association of Slovak women was founded on August 4, 1869 in Turčiansky Svätý Martin under the impulse of Ambro Pietor, editor of Národné noviny. Živena was forced to stop its activities in 50’s of 20th century and this situation lasted till 90’s. In 1990 association was re-established on behalf of appeal of Hana Zelinová. Chairpersons of Živena were: Anna Pivková (1869 – 1894), Elena Marórthy-Šoltésová (1894 – 1927), Anna Halašová (1927 – 1945), Mária Pietrová (1945 – 1948), Hana Zelinová (1990 – 1993), Zora Breierová (1993 –).From the program after 1990: Živena, association of Slovak women re-established in 1990 after 40 years of inactivity, continues in its program in proven traditions of association and adapts it to conditions, requirements and needs of contemporary Slovak women. Živena always have been and always will be impartial and non-confessional association uniting women no matter of their party affiliation or confession. It has been and will be a national association but it will strain after cooperation with women of other nations and nationalities and will accept them as regular members. The primary goal is to lead Slovak women to main ethic and moral values which have disappeared from our lives in last decades. It is meant mutual understanding, tolerance, fellow feeling, respect to elders, charity and help people which reliant on our help. Last but not least Živena wants to arouse interest in our national history and raise national self-confidence and pride in our nation.
