The Bratislava Children's Choir

The Bratislava Children´s Choir was founded by Prof J. Strelec and Prof J. Haluzický in 1962 by the City Cultural Centre in Bratislava. Now it belongs to the Bratislava Culture and Information Centre and is one of the first-rate children´s choirs in Slovakia and abroad. The choir gave concerts in more than 15 European countries, in Japan, Canada, Africa and in the USA.

Since 1967, the artistic director of the choir is the conductress Elena Šarayová-Kováčová, since 1983 in the cooperation with her son Ondrej. Together with the concert rehearser Nataša Bezeková-Kurilová, they elevated the Bratislava Children´s Choir to the professional level. The choir attracted the attention and interest of art agencies and international recording companies (SONY, DECCA, NHK-NAXOS, BBC). The choir presents its work to the public at many cultural and social events.

The choir´s repertory is extensive and consists of Renaissance polyphonic compositions as well as works of the 20th century and it doesn´t leave even the folk song arrangements and spirituals behind.

The choir cooperated with the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra, the Opera of the Slovak National Theatre, Bohdan Warchal´s Slovak Chamber Orchestra, the Chamber Soloists Bratislava and with the Ladies Chamber Orchestra. It has made many recordings for the Slovak Broadcasting and Slovak Television and gained many prestigious home and international prizes.
